Abstract
The mentioned paper deals with the modern challenges that Georgia has faced in the last period based on the current geopolitical situation. The unique geographical location of our country reminded us once again. Georgia has been a place of intersection of civilizations since time immemorial. This area between the Black and Caspian seas has always been a subject of interest for world empires. Who hasn’t passed through Georgian land: Assyrians, Urartians, Greeks, Romans, etc. Georgia, sometimes as an independent country, sometimes as a periphery on the edge of some empire, always took an active or passive part in world wars and conflicts. Empires no longer exist, but the Georgian nation has survived and continues to live, sick or well.
One of the reasons for the survival of the Georgian state, in our opinion, is that the relations with the empires gave the Georgian ruling elites and the nation as a whole a certain immunity, the ability to maneuver in terms of relations with neighboring big states. To paraphrase Ilya’s words, the Georgian knew well when to hold the sword and when to help the plow. In order to save the country and the entire Georgian nation physically and spiritually, our political elites often made certain compromises, concessions and, if necessary, did not shy away from fierce battles on the battlefield. In our opinion, this is one of the main factors of our survival in the current geographical environment. There are many historical examples, which we will not dwell on.
