Abstract

The purpose of this article: “Transit Labyrinths and Georgia” is to discuss the current state of the Middle Corridor and other transit corridors passing through Georgia. The main emphasis is on assessing the sources of origin of the main cargoes in the latitudinal transit corridors passing through Georgia. The economies of the Central Asian countries and the large-scale projects planned there are discussed, after the implementation of which new opportunities for attracting cargoes appear. The large-scale state strategic projects planned in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are discussed in more detail, as well as new initiatives for the supply of Turkmen gas to the European Union and the European Union’s announced cooperation and large-scale investments in the countries of Central Asia.

In terms of competition, the article discusses the main competing transit routes of the middle corridor passing through Georgia, such as the North-South corridor, transit corridors passing through the Russian Federation, and potentially possible transit corridors passing through Armenia, for the opening of which certain agreements and practical work have already been carried out.
